Congleton

Congleton is a town in the county of Cheshire in the north west of England, on the banks of the River Dane. It is thought to have been a Roman settlement, and in 1272 it received its charter to hold fairs and markets. King Edward I granted permission to build a mill. Congleton became an important centre of textile production, especially lace and leather gloves.
The local government district of Congleton, known as the 'Borough of Congleton' includes Congleton itself, Alsager, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Sandbach. The headquarters of the borough council are located in Sandbach.
The resident population of the borough, as measured in the 2001 Census, was 90,655, of which 49 per cent were male and 51 per cent were female.
