Colonial mentality

Colonial mentality is a pejorative term referring to the mindset of people who live in a former colony. The term can mean many things, but it is generally used to describe a citizenry who are over-reliant and expectant on a benevolent and paternalistic "other" country to provide for them. Citizens with a "colonial mentality" may in turn be spoiled from years of colonial rule, and have little self-reliance, or interest in developing it. They may also be overly fascinated with things outside their own borders, leading to a breakdown of their own domestic culture.
