Cloth

Cloth is made by weaving thin strands of fibre into a sheet of fabric generally known as "material". Cloth is woven on a loom. Cloth may also be knitted or made of felt.

Cloth is most often used in the manufacture of clothing or household furnishings. It can be made from natural or artificial fibres, in many varying strengths and degrees of durability, from the finest gossamer fabrics to sturdy canvas sailcloths. The relative thickness of fibres in cloth is measured in deniers.

Different types of fabric include felt, satin, calico, worsted and denim. The natural fibres used include cotton, wool, flax, and hemp; common artificial fibres are polyester and rayon. Microfiber refers to fibers made of strands thinner than one denier.
