Cilicia

Cilicia in Asia Minor formed a district which became an Roman province on the southeastern coast of what is now Turkey, north of Cyprus. Salamis, the city on the east coast of Cyprus, was included in its administrative jurisdiction. It was named after Cilix.

North of Cilicia lie the rugged Taurus Mountains pierced by a narrow gorge, leading to the Anatolian plateau, called since Antiquity the Cilician Gates.

Seleucus VI had court here for a short time.

During the time of the Crusades Cilicia was an Armenian kingdom.
