Chester, Nova Scotia is a coastal community in the South Shore area of Nova Scotia. It is one of the wealthiest communities in the province. It is a major tourism centre especially well known for being a base for yachting. The village is also home to the Chester Playhouse one of the best known theaters on the South Shore. It is the administrative seat of Chester Municipality, comprising the eastern half, more or less, of Lunenburg County, and has a population of about 2000. It was officially founded in 1759 as the Shoreham grant, although French fishermen had already built a few houses on the site.
