Char

Char is often a term to describe the remains of an incomplete combustion of a substance, and is generally scorched material.

It also describes material used to help ignite a flint and steel fire.

The char data type in the C programming language conveniently stores character data (using the ASCII encoding), but can also be used to store small integer data.
