Caprivi or the Caprivi Strip is a narrow protrusion of Namibia eastwards about 450km, between Botswana on the south and Angola and Zambia to the north. The largest city is Katima Mulilo.

It was named after Leo von Caprivi, Chancellor of Germany who negotiated for it to be annexed to German South-West Africa, in order to give Germany territories access to the Zambezi river.

Due to its isolated position and the fact that it ignores traditional tribal boundaries (even more than the usual postcolonial borders do), the area has had frequent problems with rebellion.

The strip is dominated by the Cuando River, which flows along the border with Botswana. Stretches of the river here go by different names: the Linyata and the Chobe. The far eastern point of the province is where the Cuando meets the Zambezi.
