The peninsula of Cap-Vert (Cape Verde, meaning "green point") is the westernmost part of the continent of Africa. It is a rock promontory extending west from the main sandy areas of Senegal. The capital of Senegal, the large city of Dakar, is located near the tip. Cap-Vert has an excellent harbor, facing Goree Island.

Cap-Vert was inhabited historically by the Lebou people, a fishing community that still lives on the north coast, at Yoff, near the modern Dakar airport.

The name of the Republic of Cape Verde comes from Cabo Verde that in French turns to Cap-Vert. The cape and the country were named by the Portuguese.
