C-3PO
C-3PO is a character from the fictional Star Wars universe. He is a protocol droid, an android specifically designed to interact with organics, and has a prissy personality and British accent.
C-3PO is one of the longest lived characters in the Star Wars pantheon, appearing in all three films of the original trilogy, but also in and in (made after the first three films, but set before them). In The Phantom Menace, we learn that C-3PO was built by Anakin Skywalker who would go on to become Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker's nemesis in the original series of films.
Several comments have been made about this link, some suggesting that Luke's life would have been easier if he had listened to the life story of C-3PO and his companion R2-D2 who seem to have met most of the major historical characters in the story long before Luke did. However droids can have their memories wiped and then have their software reloaded - similar to the manner in which a computer can have its drive reformatted and the software reloaded. At some point between Episodes 2 and 4 C3PO and R2D2 could have had their memories wiped clean. This might explain why C3P0 did not recognize Owen or the farmstead when they met in Episode IV. Owen Lars in A New Hope instructed Luke to have their memories wiped shortly before his death.
