Bravo test
The
Bravo test was held in 1954 in a large zone around
Bikini Atoll. Many high yield surface explosions with fusion devices were conducted. One of them, Castle Bravo, was supposed to have a yield of about 6 Megatons. In fact, it was the largest bomb ever tested by
the United States, it reached the dramatical yield of 15 Megatons. This failure produced many accidents, a Japanese boat was exposed to radiations and one of the fishers died. The radioactive cloud reached unexpected zones, it was a real disaster, many people and workers were contaminated. The bomb created a fireball of about 8 kilometers, raising at 1000 km/h, a deadly mushroom that reached 60 kilometers in less than 8 minutes. The crater is still visible in the atoll.
