Bourges

Bourges (pop. 76 000) is a city in central France. It is the préfecture (capital) of the département of Cher, and was also the capital of the former province of Berry.

Its gothic cathedral (built 1195-1255) has been added to the list of the World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO in 1992.

Serge Lepeltier became mayor of the city in 1995 and again in 2001.
