Bobby Riggs
Robert Larimore "Bobby" Riggs (February 25 1918 - October 25, 1995) was a tennis player who gained most fame from a challenge match against the reigning world number 2 female player Billie Jean King in 1973. He was born in Los Angeles, California.He won Wimbledon once in 1939 and the U.S. title twice (in 1939 and 1941).
As a 55-year-old male chauvinist he challenged the world's best women players, beating No. 1 Margaret Court 6-2, 6-1; but was thrashed by No. 2 Billie Jean King 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in a nationally televised ÃÂÃÂBattle of the SexesÃÂÃÂ on September 20 before a crowd of 30,492 at the Astrodome.
