The Berimbau or Berimbao is a percussion instrument from northeastern Brazil. It has traditionally been used in Candomble ceremonies; outside Brazil it is known primarily for its use in Capoeira (which was once mostly practiced as part of those same ceremonies). The instrument is known for being the subject matter of a popular song by Baden Powell de Aquino, a Brazilian guitarist. Its lyrics are written by Vinícius de Moraes.
