Battle Zone (video game)

BattleZone, released in 1980, was a vector-based (wireframe) 2.5D first-person tank simulator. This was a novelty at the time. The player controlled a tank using two handles (each controlled one of the tanks' tracks) plus a fire button. The tank drove around in the "BattleZone", a virtual landscape filled with (transparent) squares, pyramids, enemy tanks and SuperTanks, missiles and flying saucers. The horizon featured a mountain range, including an active vulcano.

With increasing score, the game would become more difficult: more SuperTanks, missiles moving more erratic, etc.

The top of the game screen featured a 'radar scope' and displayed tactical information.

The BattleZone arcade game was modified by Atari for the U.S. Army for training purposes.
