The Bakerloo Line is a line of the London Underground, coloured brown on the Tube map. It is a deep-level line running from the south-east to the north-west of London. Originally called the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway, the contraction "Bakerloo" rapidly caught on, and the official name was changed.
The Bakerloo was extended beyond its original terminus of Baker Street via interchanges with the GWR at Paddington and the Great Central at Marylebone to Queens Park, where it joined the "DC Lines" of the London and North Western Railway and ran alongside the LNWR's main line as far as Watford Junction. Bakerloo services to Watford were cut back in the 1960s and eventually withdrawn in 1982. The current northern terminus is Harrow and Wealdstone, and trains still share the tracks with local services from Euston to Watford.
In 1939 a new stretch of tube was opened between Baker Street and Finchley Road which allowed the Bakerloo to take over the Metropolitan Line's branch to Stanmore. The Stanmore branch remained part of the Bakerloo until 1979, when it became part of the Jubilee Line.
An extension on the southern end of the line to Camberwell has been proposed for several decades; lack of funding still delays more concrete plans.

Note: Between Watford Junction and Queen's Park, the Bakerloo line used surface lines and stations belonging to the London and North Western Railway (subsequently British Rail and Silverlink). These stations were and mostly still are jointly operated by the Underground and the mainline rail company.
