Avian pallium
In the anatomy of animals, an avian pallium is the telencephalon of a bird's brain.Pallium of avian species tend to have a larger paleoencephalon in proportion to neopallium as compared to phylogenetically younger species. Birds have a unique paleoencephallar structure known as the hyperpallium, also called the hyperstriatum.
A 2003 conference established a standard nomenclature for describing the avian pallium as follows:
- Neopallium
- pyriform cortex, olfactory bulb
- hippocampus
- corticoid area
- Paleopallium
- hyperpallium
- accessorium
- intercalatum
- densocellulare
- mesopallium
- dorsale
- ventrale
- nidopallium
- entopallium
- basorostralis
- arcopallium
- amygdaloid complex
- posterior amygdala
- hyperpallium
- Subpallium
- striatum
- pateral
- medial
- globus pallidus, ventral pallidum
- amygdaloid complex
- nucleus taeniae
- nucleus taeniae
- striatum
