Auton

Sponsorship the way you would do it
In the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, the Autons are an adversary of the Doctor. Appearing in Jon Pertwee's first story as the Doctor in 1970, they were the first monsters on the show to be presented in colour, in the serial Spearhead from Space. They subsequently returned in the first serial of Pertwee's second year as the Doctor, Terror of the Autons, which also featured the introduction of the Master. A third appearance was planned for the aborted 1985 season during Colin Baker's tenure as the Doctor, but never materialized. Titled Yellow Fever, it was supposed to be set in Singapore, with appearances by the Rani and the Master, and only exists in outline form.

Autons are essentially life sized plastic dummies, animated by the Nestene Conciousness, a disembodied alien entity which arrived on Earth, fragmented in hollow plastic meteorites. Within their hands deadly weapons are concealed, and twice they attempted to conquer the earth.

It has been rumored that Autons will be featured as the first monsters in the BBC's new series of Doctor Who due in 2005.
