Andrea Pia Yates (born July 2, 1964) of Clear Lake City, Texas, annexed to Houston, is a woman who is imprisoned in a Texas prison for murdering her five children; who ranged in age from 6 months to 7 years

Yates methodically drowned them in a bathtub on June 20, 2001. She was suffering postpartum psychosis, after having her last baby. She then called 911 and was arrested on the same day.

Yates admitted to the crime, but used postpartum disorder as a motion to get into a psychiatric facility. She was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with parole in 35 years instead.

Some believe or believed that Russel Yates, who works at the Johnson Space Center was also responsible for creating the conditions that led up to the murder of the children. Andrea's psychiatrist, Dr. Eileen Starbranch, says that she urged the couple not to get pregnant again, but the procreative plan dictated by the Yates' preacher, Michael Peter Woroniecki (AKA Worneki, Warnecki), insisted she should continue to have "as many children as the Lord allows."
