American Chemical Society

Founded in 1876, the American Chemical Society, ACS for short, is "a self-governed individual membership organization that consists of more than 163,000 members at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry. The organization provides a broad range of opportunities for peer interaction and career development, regardless of professional or scientific interests". ACS holds bi-annual national meetings covering the whole of chemistry, plus dozens of smaller conferences in specific fields. Its publications division produces some two dozen first-rate scholarly journals (the oldest of them , Journal of the American Chemical Society, was established 125 years ago) and several book series.
