Aleksandr Oparin (Александр Иванович Опарин, 2 March (18 February Julian) 1894 - 21 April 1980) - Soviet biologist and biochemist. Member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Founder of the RAS Biochemistry Institute (1935). In 1924 put forward a theory of life on Earth developing through gradual chemical evolution of carbon-based molecules in primeval soup.
