Aalst
Aalst is a
municipality located in
Flanders, the main autonomous state of
Belgium and in the
Flemish province of
East Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Aalst proper and the towns of Baardegem, Erembodegem, Gijzegem, Herdersem, Hofstade, Meldert, Moorsel and Nieuwerkerken. On January 1st, 2000 Aalst had a total population of 76,313 (37,331 males and 38,982 females). The total area is 78.5
km² which gives a
population density of 972.14 inhabitants per km².
