311 (band)
311 formed in 1989 in Omaha, Nebraska as a rapcore/nu metal/punk rock group. In 1997, a rumour started that the band's name, 311, stood for Ku Klux Klan because K is the 11th letter of the alphabet. The band have denied that the name has any link with the KKK. Instead saying that the name was taken from the number from an Omaha police citation for indecent exposure. Ultimately the band has benefited by the publicity from the rumour, gaining media exposure they would not have received otherwise. However, 311 is a revolutionary band blending punk with reggae, hip hop, rock and ska. Their love for the music and their fans has kept them afloat as probably one of the more popular bands who doesn't get much exposure. Though having several music videos on MTV and such, 311 still is somewhat 'underground'. Their latest album, Evolver, whose title is a play off of The Beatles' famous album, Revolver, totally changed up what anyone expected out of 311 throwing in acoustic songs yet still keeping their energy and fun in other parts of the album. Having one of the best shows out there, 311 is built to stay around for quite some time more.
