Bids are being made for host city of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The confirmed bids include:

• Havana, Cuba
• Istanbul, Turkey
• Leipzig, Germany
• London, United Kingdom
• Madrid, Spain
• Moscow, Russia
• New York City, United States
• Paris, France
• Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Other cities that had considered bidding but did not meet the deadline included:

• Abuja, Nigeria
• Budapest, Hungary
• Cairo, Egypt
• Hyderabad, India
• Milan, Italy
• New Delhi, India
• Rome, Italy
• Sao Paulo, Brazil
• Stockholm, Sweden
• Toronto, Canada
• Warsaw, Poland

The deadline to submit a bid was July 15, 2003. All nine that submitted bids also met the January 15, 2004 deadline for an IOC questionnaire. A "short list" of final candidates will be chosen on May 18, 2004. The IOC will choose a winner from the finalists on July 6, 2005 in Singapore.
